The National Influenza Center (NIC)

The national influenza center is created on the basis of Virology Scientific Research Institute on October, 2005 by the order № 500 Ministers of Health RUz by 10/10/2005 of year. The national influenza center is the republican scientifically-methodical center on questions influenza and other respiratory virus infections.

Areas of activity NIC:

  • Studying of dynamics of disease of influenza (avian, new) and other acute respiratory virus infections (ARVI) in Republic of Uzbekistan.
  • The analysis and prediction of an epidemic situation on influenza in Uzbekistan.
  • An estimation of dynamics and development of epidemic conditions on influenza for an epidemic season.
  • Information gathering and analysis of epizootic and epidemiological conditions of the avian and new influenza in the world.
  • Studying of epidemiological features of influenza and others ARVI.
  • Coordination of system of epidemiological supervision and the laboratory control over influenza, avian and new influenza.
  • Developments of a complex preventive and antiepidemic actions, scientific bases of strategy and tactics of against an influenzal infection, methodical materials and recommendations about questions epidemiology, clinics, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance of a influenza, the avian and new influenza.
  • Rendering of the advisory and scientifically-methodical help institutions, to the organizations and departments on a problem of influenzal infections.
  • Participation in drawing up of government programs and directive documents on influenza problem.
  • Carrying out of educational work among experts and the population on avian problem.
  • Studying antiepidemic efficiency of vaccines against influenza.

The laboratory base of the National Influenza Center carries out virologic researches, molecular-biological researches, serological researches on influenza, bird's (A/H5N1) and a new influenza (A/H5N1).

The national influenza center co-operates with the National influenza center of the CIS countries, Institute of influenza of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (St. Petersburg), the Novosibirsk centre of virology and biotechnology "Vector".
